Sleepyhead讲述的是一位美丽的公主被施了魔法，沉睡在一座城堡中，一名勇士带上勇士慕名而来，希望能唤醒她。
随着歌声戛然而止，谁也不知最终的结局如何。
而这则故事的原型，被人们人为是德国的著名神话悲剧故事《尼伯龙根的指环》(The Ring of Nibelungen）。
故事中，一位善良的女武神Brvuhild为了拯救被众神之王Wotan追杀的夫妇，而遭受到沃坦的惩罚，被流放到人间的一座荒山顶上的城堡里，并用盾牌和火焰团团围住。Wotan称，她将沉睡，直至一位能跨过火焰来拯救她的人到来。
多年后，被Brvuhild救下的夫妇的孩子Siegfried长大成人，前来拯救她。Siegfried在途中杀死了巨龙，跨过火焰，来到床前亲吻了沉睡的Brvuhild。Brvuhild醒来后，一睁眼就爱上了Siegfried，两人立下了永不分离的誓言。
但故事并不总是以幸福结尾的，这对相爱的夫妻之后被人离间，互相残杀，Siegfried最后死于一场计谋。Brvnhild在得知被离间的真相后后悔不已，以殉情的方式完成了当初许下的永不分离的誓言。
